Greetings from Amsterdam, where I recently boarded the historic Rainbow Warrior and Esperanza ships, fresh from their respective returns from Mexico and the Arctic (via Sri Lanka). Thank you to Valeria, Outreach Officer at Greenpeace, for giving me such a fantastic tour. I have worked with Greenpeace for a few years through our Red Carpet Green Dress project and really support the work that they are doing.
Launched in February 2002, the Esperanza is the largest vessel in the Greenpeace fleet. And Esperanza – Spanish for “hope” – is the first Greenpeace ship to be named by Greenpeace supporters. The Rainbow Warrior is the first ship in the Greenpeace fleet designed and built specifically for Greenpeace; that means the Rainbow Warrior is one of the most environmentally-friendly ships ever made and any campaigner’s dream.
